How to get your friends into running (without nagging)
Ways to get friends to start running with you: invite small, run at their pace, pick a shared goal, and make it social rather than a workout.
You love running and want your friends to join. The good news is that most people are more open to it than they say. The trick is making the first few runs easy, short and fun.
Invite small
“Fancy a 20-minute jog and a coffee on Saturday?” works far better than “you should do a half marathon with me.” Make the first ask short and low-stakes.
Run at their pace
Let them set the pace, and walk breaks are fine. If they can chat, the pace is right. Your own training can wait for another day. See starting running with friends.
Make it social
- End somewhere nice: a café, a bakery, a view.
- Bring other friends, so it feels like a plan, not a lesson.
- Don’t talk splits unless they ask.
Give it a shared goal
After a few runs, a target gives everyone a reason to keep going: a local 5K in a couple of months, or a run every week until the clocks change. More in a first 5K with friends.
Don’t nag
If someone isn’t keen, leave the invite open and keep running. Seeing you enjoy it is often what eventually gets them out.
How RunPack helps
Invite friends to your crew with a code or link. They can record runs with just their iPhone, no watch needed, and everyone’s runs appear in one private feed. Free for crews of up to 4. See how a crew works.
