Running pace calculator
Enter a distance and a finish time to get your pace per kilometre and per mile, or enter a pace to see your finish time. You also get even splits and predicted times for 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon.
Predicted race times
From this run, using Riegel’s formula. A guide, not a promise: it assumes you’ve trained for the longer distance.

How pace, time and distance fit together
Pace = time ÷ distance. Runners use pace (minutes per km or mile) rather than speed because it maps straight onto the watch: a 6:00 /km pace means each kilometre takes six minutes.
Finish time = pace × distance. At 6:00 /km a 10K takes 60 minutes and a half marathon about 2:06:35.
Predicting a race. Times don’t scale evenly with distance, because you slow down as a race gets longer. Peter Riegel’s formula, T₂ = T₁ × (D₂ ÷ D₁)1.06, captures that: a 25:00 5K predicts about 52:07 for 10K.
Even splits. Most people race best at an even pace or slightly faster in the second half. Going out fast usually costs more time later than it saves early. The split table above shows where you need to be at each marker.

Pace questions
How do you calculate running pace?
Divide your time by your distance. A 5 km run in 27:30 is 1,650 seconds ÷ 5 = 330 seconds per kilometre, which is 5:30 per km. Multiply a per-km pace by 1.609 to get the pace per mile (8:51).
What is a good 5K time?
It depends on age, experience and training, so compare yourself with yourself. Many new runners finish a first 5K in 30 to 40 minutes; regular club runners are often between 20 and 30 minutes.
How accurate are predicted race times?
They assume you have trained for the longer distance. Riegel’s formula works well from 5K to half marathon; for a marathon most people run slower than predicted unless their weekly mileage is high.
What pace should easy runs be?
Slow enough to hold a conversation, usually 60 to 90 seconds per km slower than your 5K pace. See our guide to conversational pace.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The calculator runs in your browser and nothing you type leaves your device.
