Training with friends: how to start a crew that keeps going
Why training with other people helps you show up, and a simple way to run a small training crew — with weekly goals and without oversharing.
Most people train more consistently when someone else is expecting them. A running club, a gym partner, a group chat that asks “who’s in tomorrow?” — the accountability is the point. The hard part is keeping it going after the first few weeks.
Keep it small
Three to eight people is the sweet spot: big enough that someone’s always training, small enough that everyone notices when you’re missing. RunPack crews hold up to eight for that reason.
Give the week a shape
An open-ended “let’s train more” fades. A weekly goal doesn’t: twenty workouts between you, or everyone checking in every day. It resets every Monday, so a bad week is forgotten by the next one.
Talk about how you feel, not your numbers
Friends don’t need your heart rate data to help you. Knowing that someone is “recovery low” this morning is enough to swap a hard session for an easy one together. RunPack shares bands like that with your crew — never your score or heart data.
Make the morning the moment
A crew that checks in at the same time builds a habit. RunPack writes one card for the crew each morning — who synced, who’s freshest, who should take it easy — and can send a notification when it’s ready.
Starting one
- Create a crew in RunPack and give it a name your friends will recognise.
- Send the invite link — it opens straight in the app.
- Pick this week’s goal.
- Check the card tomorrow morning.
