Running crew with different watches? How to see everyone’s runs
One friend has a Garmin, one an Apple Watch, one just a phone. How to get everyone’s runs in one place without making anyone switch devices.
Almost every running group is a mix: a Garmin, an Apple Watch, maybe a WHOOP, and someone who just uses their phone. Each brand has its own app and its own friends list, so nobody sees everyone. Here’s how to fix that without asking anyone to buy a new watch.
The problem: each brand is its own island
Garmin users see Garmin friends. Apple Watch users see Apple Watch friends. Phone-only runners often see no one. Asking everyone to switch is a non-starter.
Option 1: everyone posts to one social running app
Most watches can send runs to the big social running apps automatically. It works, but everyone needs an account there, and the default is often a public profile.
Option 2: use the phone as the meeting point
On iPhone, Apple Health is where data from different devices meets. Apple Watch writes runs there automatically, Garmin Connect can be set to write them, and phone-recorded runs can be saved there too. An app that reads Apple Health sees everyone’s runs, whatever recorded them.
What to agree as a group
- Where runs go: one place everyone checks.
- Who sees them: just the group, or the world.
- What “a run” means for any group target: does a 1 km jog count?
How RunPack does it
RunPack is built for mixed groups on iPhone. It reads runs from Apple Health (Apple Watch, Garmin and other apps that write there) and records runs with the phone’s GPS for anyone without a watch. Everyone’s shared runs land in one private crew feed. Free for crews of up to 4. If two of your devices record the same run, it counts once. See how a crew works.
