How to share Garmin runs with friends (even on iPhone)

Sharing runs from a Garmin watch with friends: Garmin Connect connections, social running apps, and a private crew with friends on Apple Watch or just a phone.

Garmin watches record runs brilliantly, but sharing them with friends who don’t own a Garmin takes a bit of setup. Here are the options, from Garmin’s own to a shared crew.

1. Garmin Connect

The Garmin Connect app lets you add connections and join groups, and share activities with them. It works best when your friends also use Garmin.

2. A social running app

Garmin Connect can send activities to many running apps automatically. From there, followers on that app see your runs. Check the privacy settings, since public maps can show where you live. See how to share runs privately.

3. Through Apple Health, to a private crew

On an iPhone, Garmin Connect can write workouts to Apple Health once you turn on the connection in its settings. Any app that reads Apple Health can then see those runs, including crew apps. That’s the easiest way to share with friends on Apple Watch or no watch at all. Details of what syncs are in Garmin with Apple Health.

How RunPack does it

RunPack picks up runs your Garmin writes to Apple Health and, if you turn on run sharing, puts them in your crew’s private feed next to friends’ runs from Apple Watch or iPhone GPS. You keep recording on your Garmin as usual. Free for crews of up to 4, on iPhone. See how a crew works.

What Garmin Connect shares can change with its app updates. Garmin is a trademark of its owner; RunPack isn’t affiliated with Garmin.
